Shiatsu literally means “finger pressure” in Japanese. The therapist uses perpendicular pressure to various points on the body to tonify and sedate specific points as required. This restores balance to the body both from an energetic and physical aspect (the two do not have to be mutually exclusive). The therapist may employ thumb, palm or elbow to apply pressure. Many patients often find Shiatsu to be simultaneously soothing and invigorating, relaxing and replenishing.
